Becoming A Professional Poker Player
By J.Reider
There is a big difference between playing with friends for fun and playing professionally. The difference is not only in the approach but in the gaming moves as well.

If you are considering to become a professional player and to turn your new (or old) hobby into a career, there are a few factors you should consider before doing so. The first step in your way of becoming professional is to question yourself on your decision by referring important facts:

1. The difference between a friendly game and a professional game is much more then just the amount of the jackpot. A friendly game is a stress reliever where you can calm down and enjoy the friendly company of your friends. A professional game is a stress factor where you need to concentrate and figure out whether the people around you pose a threat on you or not.

2. Once you have decided to pursue a career you will have to do more then just play a lot. In order to succeed in this profession you will have to learn different strategies, play against as many player as possible and constantly practice your gaming moves.

3. Even though you were the best player in your neighborhood (or even in your town) you are still considered a small time player in the gaming industry. It means going back to the beginning and accepting the fact that you do not know a thing about professional poker, even if you think you do.

After you have had all these facts taking under consideration and you still want to become a professional player, you are ready for the next few steps:

1. The first step and the continuance one is to start learning all kinds of strategies and to practice all the time. It is highly important not to play against the

same people all the time, but to play with different players that have different approaches towards the game. The bigger the variety of people you play against, the greater your skills will become in "reading" players reactions. The best place to do so is at online poker rooms which enables it with no hassle at all.

2. Play for practice at first and not for money, and when you do start playing for money, you better start with very small amounts. If you wish to focus on your gaming skills, do not enter the jackpot factor at the beginning or it will move away the focus from the game to the prize. When you will feel ready, you will know better to combine the two, although many professional players still choose to ignore the jackpot factor in order to improve their gaming skills.

Now you need to review these important points and make your decision, and hopefully you will be one of the finalists in the next World Series of Poker.
